What We Will Do For You
Persuasive Job Search Documents
Do you know how long a typical employer will spend reading your resume, or what employers want to see in a cover letter? We do! Let Deckter Consulting review and revise your existing job search documents—or draft them from scratch if you have not already done so—to create a persuasive application package that will help you stand out from the crowd. We will also review and help you select a writing sample or other work product to prove to an employer that you have the skills they need.
Networking
“Networking” is a dirty word in job searching. No one wants to do it and everyone rolls their eyes when you suggest it. But here is the secret… it works! And if you learn how to network successfully, you will have an edge over those who only see the “work” part of “network.” Let Deckter Consulting create your individualized networking strategy and teach you the networking skills you need to make the most of your existing contacts, your professional association memberships, and your next networking reception to get results.
Interviewing
Nothing can prepare you for the real thing like practice. Athletes, musicians, dancers, and even doctors, practice every day to sharpen their skills and be their best when its time to perform. The same concept applies to interviews. This is why Deckter Consulting provides mock interviews to help prepare you for the big day.
After collecting information from you about the employer, the job, and the interviewer(s), we will prepare interview questions and interview you for the job in a real-life scenario—including you wearing a suit! After the interview, we will debrief and deconstruct your performance by providing you with extensive and critical feedback. If there are aspects of the interview that did not go well, we will provide detailed information on what you need to improve and exactly how to do so. For example, if you answer some questions in a less-than-persuasive manner, your mock interviewer will work with you to craft answers to these questions so that you get it right when it counts.
Consulting Sessions
A well-drafted resume and cover letter are nice, and knowing how to network and interview is great, but what if you do not actually know what you want to do next? What if you are not just looking for any job, but to start your career? What if you are looking for your next career instead of your next job? Deckter Consulting can help with that, too!
We offer hourly consulting sessions (as many as you need!) during which we will help you tease out your likes, dislikes, and interests to help you decide what your next step should be. If you are considering several potential paths, we will help you target individuals who are working in those areas, and then prepare for and execute informational interviews to help in your decision-making process. During your sessions, we will also identify your existing skills that will easily transfer to your new job or career and recognize any additional education or training that you may need to successfully make your transition. But mostly, we will support you and provide guidance at a time when a real change can be really scary.
Putting It All Together
The services offered by Deckter Consulting work best when used in combination. Because each job search is unique, we will work with you to put together a career development package that best fits your individual needs.
